Did you choose print or did print choose you?
Print definitely chose me! After being in event marketing for a few years I began brokering print services for people within my network. Within a few years, I decided to take the process in-house and began acquiring equipment, piece by piece. First a digital machine, then signage and apparel. We quickly grew into a full-service print shop. I often wonder how I ended up here but I am grateful for this path, there is still POWER IN PRINT.
How do you establish credibility with colleagues, clients and bosses?
I establish credibility by being a woman of my word. Nothing is ever truly guaranteed in print so for that reason I have back up vendors to help us out in a pinch. I also communicate with clients if an issue arises, it’s never fun but great communication can prevent from something turning into a nightmare. I also try to be as transparent as possible with my customers and team. What we do, what we don’t do well. If you explain it at the beginning then people can always say you were upfront and honest.
In 50 words or less tell us your mission for elevating Print this year.
I want to show that print can have a greater impact. We recently launched a non-profit, WDB Cares to become a conduit to give grants to entrepreneurs to help grow their business. We work with hundreds of businesses, the majority Black-owned, I want to show them that the print world cares about them.
