Did you choose print or did print choose you?

Truthfully, I never had realized that a career in print was possible until I discovered the Graphic Communications program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. I always had a broad scope of interests throughout my education and by the time I was a senior in high school, I was taking a combination of mechanical drafting, marketing, and art studio electives. It was an odd combination at the time, but now I’ve landed in a field that embraces technology, creativity, and the exciting world of business – it really came full circle.

During my time in the Graphic Communications program at UW-Stout, I chose print. While I was already passionate about design and marketing; I quickly became enamored with the manufacturing side of the industry as well. My on-campus job was in our print lab where I would help with routine maintenance and perform demos on our digital, flexographic, and offset presses. I competed for two years in the Phoenix Challenge competition, helped start up a GCEA Student Chapter, and had some incredible summer internships along the way. I simply couldn’t get enough, and was always looking for more ways to get involved!

Now, I am happier than ever in my role with Quad’s In-Store team. Every day is unique and exciting where I have the privilege to help solve complex customer problems and enhance consumer experiences within the retail environment.

Proud print nerd over here!

How do you establish credibility with colleagues, clients, and bosses?

I let my actions speak for themselves. I work hard, pay attention to the details, and treat others how I would want to be treated. Establishing positive internal and external relationships is critical, so I am always keeping in mind how my personal brand reflects outward.

Really listening is also key. When you ask the right questions and listen to what others are saying, it leads to better conversations and looking at a situation with a clearer lens. It also presents the opportunity to think outside of the box and bring new solutions to the table.

Thus far, I have been extremely lucky to have had some incredible mentors that have guided me along on my way. They have encouraged me to speak up, question things, and have empowered me to make my own decisions. Surround yourself with people who not only motivate you but inspire you!
