What does empowerment mean to you as a woman in printing?
As a woman in print empowerment, to me means feeling confident in the choices I make and having the skills and knowledge to back up my decisions. It also means helping to empower other women in print, we are stronger together, and when you have a community of women in print, the empowerment that comes with that is remarkable.
Can you share a moment in your career when you felt truly empowered?
There have been several moments in my career when I felt truly empowered.
A HUGE one was when I was selected as the Vice Chair for PICA Emerging Leaders, to be selected for this role and trusted to use my skills to help develop a group of young leaders in our industry was very empowering!
My other biggest moment was when I moved into the role I am currently in as Director of Operations for Poole Printing Company, as a young woman being trusted with the daily operations of a shop was extremely empowering, it felt like if I could take that on when I was only 25, I could do anything in this industry that I wanted.
What resources or programs have helped you grow in your career that you would recommend to young women?
A huge resource that has helped me gain empowerment has been Girls Who Print! Whether you are an active member or not, knowing there is a community of women in the same boat as you is always a reassuring thing.
A newer resource has been PICA Emerging Leaders, having the opportunity to grow in my leadership skills with other young professionals in the Carolina’s has been amazing, and has changed us all in different ways.
The biggest thing that has helped me grow though, is simply talking to people, talking to my peers, to people in every area of our shop. Finding out what’s worked for them, and how the industry has changed in their time helps growth immensely.
