What does empowerment mean to you as a woman in printing?

In each aspect of my role, empowerment takes a different shape. When I focus specifically on my role in print & promo sales, empowerment means helping marketing professionals share their brand’s stories, growing their reach, and supporting my client’s individual success in their roles.

As a leader at Liberty Creative Solutions, empowerment means celebrating the power of our team, while elevating their voices and unique talents so we can create success individually, as a business, and for our clients.

That is my answer from a strictly professional sense, but there’s a lot that’s personal about my role in printing too. My mother (Angela Hipelius) is a woman who prints and is Liberty Creative Solution’s CEO. As I follow in her footsteps and work to learn the company she has led and grown for over 30 years, my role empowers me to carry on and expand the trail she blazed. I am grateful for the foundation she laid, and the many women she has brought with her along the journey. When I joined the LCS team, having such dynamic and welcoming women in our company to learn from and support my growth was highly empowering.

As a mother of a daughter, I know when she sees me working hard in a career, I am passionate about, I am setting a strong example for her to follow. My one goal in setting this example is to show her when you put your heart into what you do, the sky is the limit.

Overall, empowerment to me is not only knowing some strong women have my back but also being able to pass that supportive feeling on to other women and girls.

Can you share a moment in your career when you felt truly empowered?

One recent moment in my career that I felt empowered was when my role transitioned from working in a customer support-focused to sales. What makes me feel empowered in this transition is the amazing women on my team who have helped make the transition seamless, for myself and our clients. They stepped up to manage the day-to-day operations of the promo division, allowing me to focus more time on creating new relationships with prospective clients. I am very grateful for the part Dionne and Sara play on the LCS team. Their fresh ideas and expertise have allowed us to continue growing and improving the experience we provide our clients!

What resources or programs have helped you grow in your career that you would recommend to young women?

Networking events and trade shows have been catalysts for moments of exponential growth in my career. They have a way of fueling not only my passion but also my knowledge in a way that renews my dedication to continuous growth. A few of the events I have attended were exclusively for women or had specific breakout sessions for women. These opportunities especially empowered me because they created space to celebrate the impact women have on the print and promo industries and allowed me to learn directly from influential female figures who have paved the way and kept the print industry healthy and innovative.

To young women entering the industry, my advice would be to actively seek out formal and informal mentorship, attend events, and build a network of women who inspire you. These connections will empower you to carve your path and these same women will celebrate your successes along the way.
