What does empowerment mean to you as a woman in printing?

Empowerment in this industry isn’t just about personal achievement; it’s about shifting the perception of what a woman can do in printing by breaking barriers of social norms. It means being a fearless leader that is willing to go to great lengths not just for her accomplishments but to create a legacy where future generations of women see a path for themselves, where they know their voices will be heard and their skills will be merited.

Today, I stand as a testament to what a woman can achieve. I juggle multiple roles with grace – mother, wife, friend, and a respected professional. I’m the one cheering at the sidelines at softball games and gymnastics meets, helping with homework, serving as President of the PTO, all while prioritizing my well-being, nurturing my relationships and excelling in my career and contributing to the industry. I’ve exemplified that being a woman and mother isn’t limiting in what can be brought to the table, availability or bandwidth and that women can be successful in all areas of their life without compromising professional achievement, integrity or values.

Lastly, empowerment is not just about achieving success; it’s about inspiring others, particularly young women, to break free from limitations and pursue their dreams with unwavering determination. Empowerment in the printing industry, for me, has been about carving out my space in a traditionally male-dominated world and proving that a woman’s perspective, drive, and expertise are not just relevant, but essential to innovation and success.

Can you share a moment in your career when you felt truly empowered?

Empowerment is about rising above the obstacles placed in front of me by circumstance and societal expectations. I grew up facing hardship, but I refused to let adversity define me or allow anyone to tell me I wasn’t good enough. I will share in a general way two of the most truly empowering experiences in my career. One is leaving behind situations and circumstances that didn’t serve me, demonstrating that I deserve respect, that I have the power to shape my destiny and that I won’t tolerate anything less. Icing on the cake of the wins and accomplishments that came from being willing to walk away from that so the right doors could open to serve my highest good. Secondarily, mentoring and helping other women succeed has been one of the most fulfilling and empowering experiences of not only my career, but my life. It has given me a sense of purpose and empowerment that I never thought possible. Once I had established myself, I made it my mission to help other women achieve their dreams. I started mentoring young women, sharing my knowledge and experience with them. I also volunteer my time to organizations that support women’s empowerment and growth. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching countless women achieve their goals, overcome obstacles, break barriers, and become successful leaders in their field, and this has been incredibly rewarding. I believe that every woman has the potential to achieve great things and I’m proud to be a part of helping them reach their full potential.

What resources or programs have helped you grow in your career that you would recommend to young women?

First and foremost, take care of you and be willing to go to any length to do that and tap into any resources available so that you can be the best version of yourself. You share what you are, and you can’t give away what you don’t have. Second, be wise in your choices about romantic relationships and marriage. Having a healthy, sound and supportive foundation at home provides the keys to your emotional well-being and lends great support to your ability to conquer and tackle your professional endeavors. Find incredible mentorship and networking events and programs where you can initiate and build solid relationships. These will pay dividends for years to come. Create an online presence and branding for yourself where you can continue to build upon your professional accomplishments and educate others in your industry. Lastly, never stop learning and growing. Have enough humility to know you don’t know everything and never will and don’t ever get too complacent. Continue to develop yourself personally, professionally, and share and help others.
