What does empowerment mean to you as a woman in printing?
Empowerment, to me, means having the confidence and freedom to carve out my path in an industry that’s traditionally been male-dominated. It’s about having the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to bring my creative and technical expertise to the table – whether in prepress, quality control, or pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in print. It also means supporting other women in the industry, sharing knowledge, and creating spaces where we’re valued for our contributions and leadership.
Can you share a moment in your career when you felt truly empowered?
One of the most empowering moments in my career was when I launched my own print business, Arcane Print. Having worked extensively in print and prepress, I knew I wanted to build something that reflected my vision – focusing on high-quality, fine art printing while supporting artists and creatives. Taking that leap, handling every aspect from sourcing production partners to marketing, and seeing my business take shape showed me that I had not only the technical expertise but also the business acumen to succeed on my terms.
What resources or programs have helped you grow in your career that you would recommend to young women?
One of the best ways to grow in this industry is by combining technical expertise with strong business and networking skills. I’d recommend:
Print & design communities: Joining industry groups, both online and in person, has helped me stay ahead of trends and connect with like-minded professionals.
Mentorship & collaboration: Learning from experienced printers and collaborating with artists has deepened my understanding of both the technical and creative sides of print.
Business & mindset resources: Books like Think and Grow Rich have helped me develop the confidence and strategic thinking needed to build my own business. I also recommend exploring free or low-cost business development programs – many are available for women entrepreneurs.
