What does empowerment mean to you as a woman in printing?

I believe in this moment, empowerment means having the freedom to innovate, share ideas, and bring artistic visions to life. The printing industry has historically been described as a male-dominated field, particularly in areas like press operations or equipment handling. Because of this, I have been inspired by my peers to create time into gaining technical expertise and running projects from sales, production, project management, coordination, and installation. This action helps me to open conversations into these gender norms and showing that women can excel in every area of the industry.

Can you share a moment in your career when you felt truly empowered?

I can share the moment when I realized I had what it takes to create my own company and leave my job of 20+ years. I felt if I did not take this opportunity at that moment to share my knowledge, experience, expertise, and joy out into the business world from my perspective – then I would have stayed in my comfort zone.

What resources or programs have helped you grow in your career that you would recommend to young women?

Books: “Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg

Mentoring: SCORE Mentoring

Girls Who Print Mentoring: Deborah Corn introduced us to women who help with time management, focus on organization and speakers who inspire and expose us to true conversations on some of the same obstacles we all face in the print industry. Most importantly, I would constantly push yourself to dream bigger than you can imagine. Surround yourselves with like-minded individuals who you can trust to speak openly about whatever may be hindering or challenging you. For myself, I revert to writing things down that I need help with or going outside to be still. Some of my greatest realizations came to me when I allowed my mind to be still.
