What does empowerment mean to you as a woman in printing?

Empowerment, to me, means creating opportunities for other women in printing. The printing industry has been a male-dominated field for so long that to ensure that women can contribute their ideas and perspectives in the field, and to be valued and respected for their contributions is a huge step forward. Empowerment has, and can continue to, changed the game in such a positive manner!

Can you share a moment in your career when you felt truly empowered?

I have been offered the opportunity to speak on a panel about being a woman in print, and the challenges that it has come with. I spoke on my experiences, and answered more questions than I had thought were out there.  After the discussion had concluded, I had a few women come up to me saying that I had helped them feel like they had value, and that I encouraged them to find their voice.  This was amazing to me, but one gentleman came up to me saying he didn’t realize it was a challenge for women to be in the printing industry until he had listened to the panel. To know I had helped to make a difference, and my message was going to keep moving forward felt very empowering.

What resources or programs have helped you grow in your career that you would recommend to young women?

There have been many resources that have helped me grow in my career, but I think (and I’m not saying this to kiss up, lol) Girls Who Print, their networking and mentoring capabilities, would be one of the most valuable tools a young woman starting in print could have in their tool box.
