Did you choose print or did print choose you?
I began my career as a graphic designer and gravitated towards print and paper because it was the medium that gave me the most creative satisfaction. So, I did chose print, but I didn’t think of it as “choosing print.” For me, I was choosing design and print/paper happened to be the medium that I enjoyed working with the most that gave me the greatest creative satisfaction.
How do you establish credibility with customers, colleagues and bosses?
By getting things done in a fashion that exceeds expectations.
What advice can you offer regarding negotiating salary raises/ addressing fair pay issues?
Know your worth and be prepared to communicate (and back up) what you bring to the table and the value you bring. But, first and foremost, never be afraid to ask. I’ve learned many people are actually disappointed or surprised when you don’t.
What advice did you receive early in your career that you wished you had followed?
Promotion is everything, and I’m not just talking about women who work for themselves. Self-promotion is extremely important for women that work for companies and organizations as well. I’m not a natural self-promoter, but I’ve learned you have to toot your own horn sometimes in order for others to begin to understand everything you do and the scope of what you can bring to the table. I’d like to see more women promote themselves.
