Did you choose print or did print choose you?
Print chose me, and to be precise, the Prepress world in particular, what I call the “editors of print”. I went to a technical school for graphic arts. Turns out I landed a job with Rex Three almost 20 years ago in the Prepress department, which I loved due to the technical side of printing.
How do you establish credibility with customers, colleagues and bosses?
Trust is the number one thing needed in a partnership. Listening and be empathetic about their needs, find a common ground to be able to work together. Also being honest at all times so there are no sudden surprises in the future.
What advice can you offer regarding negotiating salary raises/addressing fair pay issues?
Don’t sell yourself short. Understand the market across multiple states to establish a fair pay range for your efforts and knowledge.
What advice did you receive early in your career that you wished you had followed?
Go to college!.
I was an undocumented immigrant to this country and was not able to go to college. I was only able to go to technical school due to dual enrollment through high school. I will always hear, go to college and I wish I did to gain more knowledge. I am happy where I am right now, but it would have been nice to get that overall learning experience.
I encourage the youth to study and get a degree!.
