Please share advice for young women considering or starting a career in print… Which includes design, sales, marketing and all jobs within.
Having a career in the printing industry is genuinely rewarding. I’ve been doing this 18 years now and I can honestly say that helping facilitate getting a client’s product finished and out the door is one of the coolest things I’ve been involved with in my career. Helping clients get their message out through a proven marketing channel in the age of all things digital is so important.
Print and mail are not going away any time soon as many recent studies have shown. And, seeing the project go from design concept through the various manufacturing processes to a finished product is so gratifying. Printing is fast paced, challenging & there is never a dull moment. Until I stumbled upon print in my 20’s I wouldn’t have thought of it as a career at all. Now, I can’t imagine doing anything else.
How have mentors helped your personal and career development?
I have been blessed to have a few amazing female leaders in print mentor me over the years and I am so thankful to have them apart of my professional and personal life. They have shown me what once was a male dominated industry is now becoming a desired profession for more and more women. I’ve seen and heard stories of these women making advances in their careers as well as being a mom and wife all at the same time, which is beyond inspiring to me as a working mom.
These women have taught me how to be present in my career while still reserving that important time for my home life. Whenever I need advice on work topics like how to handle myself as an employee or as a manager they are always there to talk to. They provide advice and support for just about anything I need, and they are there just to listen if I’m struggling.
