What do you do?
As the CEO of the International Sign Association, we drive programs and services to help the entire sign and graphics industry grow and thrive. ISA’s mission is to serve as community catalysts helping connect businesses and people.
What investments have you made in your professional career development?
I have a certification in association management (Certified Association Executive), which requires continuous learning credits in association management best practices. I am a member of many professional groups, including the American Society of Association Executives and the Council of Manufacturing Associations, as well as many CEO and professional peer groups. I also have my Masters in Public Policy.
What investments have you made in your personal development?
It is critical to be continuously learning, no matter where you are in your career. I attend numerous conferences and programs on association leadership and management and am a member of several CEO peer groups. Early in my career, I recognized the importance of developing facilitation and public speaking skills, so I invested in courses and groups to help me improve in those areas. However, it is equally important to take care of yourself. Self-care is not selfish. I exercise nearly every day, read voraciously, meditate daily, and regularly spend time cooking for family and friends.
How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?
ISA has a Women Leading the Industry (WLI) forum, creating a safe and productive space for women and, importantly, their allies, to discuss issues of importance to women in the industry. Investing in enhancing women’s growth is imperative for the health and success of the industry and individual companies. Countless studies reinforce that diversity leads to improved bottom lines for companies. Furthermore, workforce shortages, now and foreseeable for years to come, demand that the industry be inclusive in its approach.
