What do you do?

I currently work for instantprint as PR and Communications Lead! I help define and execute our PR and communication strategy. I am responsible for projects from start to finish and come up with creative ways of generating backlinks and media interest in the instantprint brand. I create a variety of different styles of written content, aligned to the interests that the instantprint audience would consume. This includes case studies, whitepapers, thought leadership articles, press releases, blogs, emails, social posts, award submissions and interview write-ups. I also come up with new and imaginative ways to create and share content.

I’ve worked in the print industry now for nearly three years.

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

I won the Printing Charity’s Rising Star Award in 2023 – The Rising Star Awards champion young talent – the bright future of the print industry. Every year, winners receive grants of up to £1,500 to invest in career development and grow their future potential in print. The award is used to fund a broad spectrum of training and development to grow skillsets, boost career opportunities, and bring new knowledge and capability into the workplace.

Using the grant, I’m currently making progress in pursuit of the Postgraduate Degree Level 5 Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) course. This rigorous program will equip me with the theoretical foundation necessary for effective PR practice, encompassing vital skills such as research, PR planning, storytelling through content creation, and measuring communication impact.

What investments have you made in your personal development?

Off the back of winning the Rising Star Award, I’ve gone on to deliver webinars to other potential Rising Stars looking to apply in 2024 and spoke at the FESPA UK Next Generation event which welcomes 18-30-year-olds from all areas of print, signage, and graphics.

I run a small account on Instagram, dedicated to interior design and home decor where I share my images and inspiration. I’ve since gone on to work with brands and have had my images shared by made.com, 4Lite, Gleeson Homes.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

In what can be perceived as a predominantly male industry, it’s always inspiring to see what impact women have had.

Continue to attract young, fresh, female talent. There’s a huge pool of opportunity waiting. I think that when you hear ‘print industry’ you can’t envision what that means or looks like. The industry should share a deeper dive into what makes it unique, there’s a reason why print has stood the test of time, so showcase this!
