What do you do?
As the eCommerce Manager at instantprint, I am responsible for defining and executing our eCommerce strategy. I play a crucial role in aligning our broader business goals and OKRs to the strategy, focusing on developing our online sales, platform, and product strategy to optimise conversions. My responsibilities also include ensuring that instantprint is an industry-leading platform and using cutting-edge technology to deliver a great user experience.
Before transitioning into eCommerce, I began my career in design. I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Graphic Design from Coventry University. Starting as a Junior Graphic Designer, I’ve steadily progressed to my current position through hard work and dedication. I created my own position at instantprint as eCommerce Manager by presenting my idea for a team structure to the Managing Director of Print at Bluetree Group. Since then, I’ve built my team which includes an eCommerce Assistant and a UX Digital Designer.
Previously, I was the Creative Lead at instantprint and in this role, I ensured the consistency and on-brand delivery of all creative outputs as well as managing the workload of the creative team. I led the design creation of various marketing materials and also took on the role of UX/UI Lead, spearheading projects to enhance the user experience across our platforms.
What investments have you made in your professional career development?
Over the past few years, I’ve actively pursued learning opportunities to enhance my skills. I’ve attended courses like a UX boot camp and an Adobe After Effects course, and I’ve built up a library of books to expand my knowledge. A particular favourite of mine is ‘The Confidence Effect’ by Grace Killelea. It sheds light on differences in how women and men navigate the workplace. Since reading it, I’ve applied some of the tools and theories from the book to my job.
Additionally, I took a bold step by applying for a position two levels higher than my current role, demonstrating my eagerness to progress. Though I didn’t get the job, I pitched my current role which I love! As a result, new doors of opportunity have opened up for me including taking part in our company’s advanced leadership programme. Stepping out of my comfort zone in this way has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made.
What investments have you made in your personal development?
In 2024, I committed to focus on my personal development. Towards the end of 2023, I sat down with my manager to create a development plan. This plan includes tasks such as building a personal brand, understanding interdependencies, and ‘knowing the numbers’.
As a first step, I asked for 360 feedback from senior management, our co-CEOs, and team members across all departments. This feedback was incredible for identifying areas for improvement and uncovering blind spots. Though some of the feedback was challenging to hear, it ultimately boosted my confidence by helping me confront the unknown. Additionally, I’ve taken steps to enhance my presence on LinkedIn and have met with our accounts team to gain a comprehensive understanding of our company’s finances.
How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?
The print industry can actively invest in women through various means:
Offering flexible working arrangements, such as remote work or flexible scheduling, to accommodate the needs of women balancing caregiving responsibilities with their careers. This support can help retain talented women in the industry.
Creating a supportive work culture where all women feel valued, supported, and respected. Equal opportunities for growth and progression should be provided. Establishing groups, workshops, or other resources specifically for women can foster a supportive community.
Providing networking opportunities tailored to women in the industry, including specific days or workshops aimed at facilitating connections and professional development.
