What do you do?

I have been working in the print and mail industry for almost 26 years.  My focus is on Postal and mail itself.  I enjoy the regulations and requirements for printing, producing, and presenting great-quality transactional and direct mail.  A large part of my responsibility includes association engagement on the local, regional, and national level to work collectively to better this great industry for all stakeholders.

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

I am a firm believer in the value of certifications.  When I first came to this Industry from a completely unrelated field, I decided I should start the path of learning and undertook a very aggressive Industry certification.  It was self-study and I read over 3,000 pages of subject-related material focusing on mailing and distribution.  Without knowing anyone else who might be in Orlando, I decided to attend my first National Postal Forum.  During NPF, I attended a Mailpiece Design course taught by a very talented and prominent woman in the mailing industry, Ms. Laine Ropson.  Attending Ms. Ropson’s seminar and passing that first certification exam set my feet on the path to pursuing my passion.

What investments have you made in your personal development?

While working full-time, I did complete my Bachelor’s Degree.  More importantly, I thoroughly enjoy Mentoring.  I participate in formal and informal mentoring sessions whenever the opportunity presents itself.  Oftentimes, mentoring comes when it is least expected!  Typically, I mentor industry-related topics; however, I find the process much more valuable and gratifying as a personal development tool.  Watching a person grow in the print and mail industry is one of the most satisfying experiences I am fortunate enough to experience regularly.  I am very proud of the individuals who have allowed me to mentor them along the way.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

I have worked in two major industries, both considered “male-dominated”.  I can honestly say that I have never experienced any sense that my being a woman has hindered my career path.  I have worked for many strong leaders, both men and women, but the women who have helped me along the way have been invaluable in promoting confidence in my abilities.  I am now blessed to be part of an organization that is owned by a nationally recognized thought leader in the print and mail field.  Michelle Steinberg is a true pioneer and I am so fortunate to be a part of her team at Sepire.
