What do you do?

I have been with the University of California since 2005, and in printing since 1990. My current role is as the Lead for “The Studio at Documents and Media”. This is our creative team in the printing department. I also manage budgets and production of the projects, from Annual Reports to large vinyl wall wraps.

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

I  have researched various creative service lines to grow our services and expand my skill set. Taking classes in Photography and Video Production, to promote Branding and Info-graphic Design. These are all services we didn’t offer when I started.

I am also just finishing up the Leadership Development Program through UCSF Campus Life Services. It was a commitment of more than a year, but has been a fantastic experience, and allowed me to meet and work with some of the most energized and brilliant leaders across UCSF.  Our year-long project has been to create a recognition program that reaches all employees including our front-line workers.

What investments have you made in your personal development?

The best investment in my personal development has been renting an art studio. I have a fine art degree in sculpture and printmaking, but San Francisco is a city of tiny apartments, and I share mine with my family. Now I have a space to be creative when I’m not at work.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

Our University is wonderful at promoting women to leadership positions. I am grateful for that and am focused on helping women with multiple disadvantages find work at the University. The process of applying is daunting.

I have two children on the autism spectrum, one of whom is a trans woman, and I see the barriers to employment amplified in the world of AI. I have proposed creating an internal team for outreach to assist applicants who can’t get through the process.
