How do you help students and your school succeed with their print and marketing endeavors?

I help my students by showing them that they can be successful in printing. Whether it is using a piece of equipment that they were previously intimidated by or keeping them encouraged to try again when things don’t go according to plan. I think it is important for them to see a female press operator and learn from my experiences. It has helped me to get more female students interested in my class and see that there is a place for them in this industry.

I help my school succeed by producing all of its marketing materials in-house. I am fortunate enough to have some nice equipment in my shop and a supportive administration that lets me attend training to stay current with things happening in the industry. I have become a valuable member of the school community and am counted on for the production of all sorts of materials from flyers and mailers to posters and wide-format graphics for the school vans and walls.

What ONE word describes your professional mission for 2023 – and why?

Growth. I am looking forward to working on my professional growth this year. I am scheduled to attend several trainings such as Advanced Offset Lithography training with Heidelberg to training on applying graphics to floors, walls, windows, and fleet vehicles through 3M. As an FTA Flexo in High Schools teacher, I will have the opportunity to learn from a workshop provided to instructors while our students compete in the Phoenix Challenge High School Flexographic Skills Competition. (This year I am taking an all-female group to the competition!) I have just updated my Fiery Command Workstation Professional certification for 2023 and I will also be trained on an ink mixing system for screen printing. I feel that learning and growing as much as I can makes me a better teacher and helps me keep my passion for the printing industry alive!
