Did you choose print or did print choose you?
I toured at a print company as a girl scout that my dad worked at. I loved the smell of the ink. When he started his own company I was 15 and worked there part-time to help out. I always intended to leave but over the years I moved around the company and learned new things and never left. When my dad retired in 2013 I took over as president.
How do you establish credibility?
You need to know what you are talking about and admit when you do not know the answer. You find mentors and others you can learn from. Be a part of the industry and associations, stay on top of new things and always continue to learn.
What advice can you offer regarding negotiating salary raises?
First of all, you have to ask for it. Do not be afraid to ask for what you deserve as long as you are being reasonable. Go with a list in mind of how you help the company and why you deserve more.
What advice did you get early in your career that you wished you followed?
Ask questions! I wish I had felt more comfortable asking questions sooner and pushing to get the answers.
