Kimberly Skinner General Manager, Total Digital Solutions

What do you do?

My family has been in printing since 1989, when we started with just a small amonia plan printer in the back of our house. Since then we have grown in leaps and bounds to a company that has 12 employees. I officially joined the company in 2006, although it wasn’t unusual to find me helping on the production floor after school or on weekends when I was a teenager!

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

The digital print sector has mostly on-the-job training, so most of the knowledge I have gained in the industry comes from my 18 years of experience. I have attended numerous leadership skills training courses to educate myself on how to be a better leader and manager for my staff.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

Most of the women I know in the industry work in the graphic design sector. Mostly because when choosing a job, print isn’t considered by most high school graduates. I would love to see some seminars held at public schools across the country to show the benefits to working in our industry and if hosted by women, would show the younger generation that this is a viable option for them.
