Kirsty Davies Sales Principal, Schlosser Signs

LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kirsty-davies

What do you do?

I am a Sales Professional at Schlosser Signs in the Colorado Springs area, Specializing in selling print and signage looking to build some solid networking in the area.

Originally from the UK, I have had to relearn a lot of what I know in the industry, from unlearning the metric system, new names of materials, and the different materials on offer in the USA. The size of signs here is dramatically increased and that gets me super excited because it means there is more room for creativity!

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

Continuously developing your professional career is so important. I love looking for online courses, be that on local or international sign association sites, or other more generalized skills on platforms like Coursera. There is also a lot we can learn from our peers, every day is a learning day!

I feel that the more knowledge you have the easier the process can be, and the more problems you can prevent happening.

What investments have you made in your personal development?

I love the industry and the fact it is always changing, there have been so many advancements in the print and signage industry of late. There is always something new to learn.

Keeping up to date is a must, I enjoy visiting trade shows when I can but a big must for me is taking the time to keep up with industry news and trends using publications, LinkedIn is a great source, and Podcasts from the Printerverse! I also have a fabulous mentor in the industry who has been a massive support system through #girlswhoprint.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

Women are under-represented in the industry, I cannot tell you how many times I have answered a call on the main line and it has been assumed I am the “reception girl” only for them to later find out with all my experience I am one of the more knowledgeable people in the company.

I think that the work #girlswhoprint is doing to spread the word that print is a world that welcomes women is fantastic. It creates a safe space for women to build community and grow together.

Companies need to foster a culture of inclusion and respect, addressing the stereotypes and biases we have been brought up on and debunking them by allowing women the same opportunities in leadership and development.

I would love to see more awareness in the education system, scholarships in design and engineering, helping to educate women on this wonderful industry and the opportunities within. When I was younger, I had no idea that a world existed where math and art collided.
