LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brandie-herrell

What do you do?

I manage all of the publishing accounts of Friesens Corporation clients throughout the Southeast US. I play a valuable role in bringing to life the stories, voices, and experiences of amazing authors throughout the South. I also have the privilege of creating many of the Christian titles that bring faith and hope to millions. I’m currently studying the best avenues to enhance Friesens’ market share in North American color printing. I seek to one day become the first female General Manager of sales at the incomparable Friesens Corporation. I intend to devote the remainder of my career to this employee-owned organization and gradually climb to the highest position attainable in sales.

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

I have made a decade of investments in my career development in the printing industry. Prior I had honed a competent skill base in marketing and advertising. I have invested a wealth of time and hard work. I have invested time in travel that is paid for in time away from my family and children. I have sharpened my skills through education and exploration. I’ve invested in my career via involvement in many organizations. I also invest by never saying no to the next webinar, podcast, or speaking engagement, because I find them nerve-racking and uncomfortable. Overcoming your fears is an important investment in growth. I aim to enlighten and help make the path to the top smoother for the females behind me in the industry, as well.

What investments have you made in your personal development?

In my personal development, I continually strive to take personal inventory, hold myself accountable, and continue to grow and evolve into a better human being. I invest in myself by learning to care for myself better, as I’ve learned you can’t pour from an empty cup. I invest in the relationships I value by showing more love and endeavoring to be more empathetic. My only competition is me.  The goal is to be a better mother, employee, Chrisitan, friend, coworker, and servant to my clients than I was yesterday.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

We must invest in more women joining the printing industry. As we know, this industry spent many, many years as a male-dominated field. That is changing, but it still holds. I think that all industries benefit from increasing the number of genders, ethnicities, backgrounds, and viewpoints that they have within their organization. I’m glad to be a part of an employee-owned company where all voices can be heard. I’m painfully aware that is not the case for all women in all companies, though. I know from past work experiences. We can proactively make investments in women by making sure employment recruiting targets and evaluates women for positions equally with male counterparts. We also need to be fairly gauging the women within our organizations for advancement within our already existing positions and structures. Lastly, we as women, must nurture the generations of women behind us within the industry. We must guide and advise them to learn, grow, and excel in printing. We can be proactive by being our own best friends, as fellow women, on this playing field.
