LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mrsmaryburney/

What do you do?

As an HP Indigo trainer, our customers come to me to learn the HP Indigo SmartStream Production Pro Print Server (Commercial and LnP) and HP SmartStream Designer (a plug-in for Adobe InDesign and Illustrator) software. Other components I teach are VDP (variable data) utilizing HP Mosaic, HP Collage, HP Spark, HP Frames, and Barcode Studio.

What investments have you made in your professional career development?

I have a B.S. from North Georgia College (now University of North Georgia) and multiple diplomas from Lanier Technical College’s Design and Media Production Technology (DMPT) program. I serve on the advisory board for Lanier Technical College’s DMPT program and have previously taught Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

What investments have you made in your personal development?

I’m always looking for new and updated skill sets and tools. HP Inc. offers many internal options for education and training. I take advantage of these at every opportunity I can. These include color education, printing workflows, and Indigo technologies like HP SmartStream Designer (a variable data plug-in for InDesign and Illustrator). I also participate in Creative Pro Network trainings and maintain a membership. Adobe is another great resource to for updating my InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop skills.

How can the industry proactively invest in women, and why should this be a priority?

Start early! Kids are naturally curious. Encourage conversations at the elementary school level. Learning about color is a great way to open the door to this industry. The younger we can expose and encourage girls to work in this industry, the better.
